Classic Gershwin at The Cinema Museum

Saturday 13 January 2018, 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Viv McLean, piano

Our most popular production moves to a new venue for 2018 – the Cinema Museum

The vibrant music of George Gershwin is interwoven with his fascinating life story from birth in the colourful, teeming New York of 1898 to his tragically early death in 1937.

Join Viv McLean, piano and Susan Porrett, narrator for an intriguing, eclectic mix of Gershwin’s music from the much-loved ‘Rhapsody in Blue’, ‘I got Rhythm Variations’ and ‘Swanee’ to the rarely-played, classical Preludes -plus a chance to explore the Cinema Museum ahead of the concert.

Set in historic surroundings in Kennington, close to the Elephant & Castle, the Cinema Museum houses a unique collection of artefacts, memorabilia and equipment that preserves the history and grandeur of cinema from the 1890s to the present day.

George Gershwin spent the final year of his life living and working in Hollywood, where he composed the music for the film ‘Shall We Dance’, starring Fred Astaire and Gingers Rogers
