His teacher Ray Parkin whose influence ranged from Classical to Boogie Woogie and Blues piano where Liam discoverd the music of Fats Domino, Albert Ammonds, Pete Johnson, Jools Holland and especially Oscar Peterson.
At college Liam studied with Paul Clay and started playing in fringe festivals and had jazz piano lessons with Berklee graduate, Paul Walker. This lead to studying jazz seriously at Middlesex University with some great tuition from the likes of Nikki Iles, Rob Townsend, Chris Batchelor, Stuart Hall, Dave Ohm and Chris Montague. Liam’s biggest influence at Middlesex was probably Gareth Williams which really established Liam as a great standards player but with his own distinctive style.
